Just got my Council Tax bill for 2013/2014

Gtr M/cr Fire and Rescue £51.23 ( an increase of 3.5% ) I've never used their service but I don't begrudge paying it.

Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner £132.74 ( an increase of 9.5% )
WTF is that all about? We have lost over 20 front line cops in my borough due to cutbacks so why a 9.5% increase?

I do hope this increase isn't to pay for the lavish lifestyle of the new Police Commissioner, or am I just being cynical?

GMP are supposedly recruiting more police officers - but at the same time losing loads (i.e. getting rid of the expensive ones and replacing them with more raw naiive cheaper recruits) - so why the increase?

I think it's because they have added the office of Commissioner. Another bloody Quango if you ask me.

Not too worried this year Salford's ruling communist / socialist / uselessist junta decreed a freeze for this year. More of this and I might have to reconsider my opinion of Labour run councils.

Thought about it now, this is just a blip, I was over reacting.

I was amazed that the folk of Salford voted Hazel Blears back in after the expenses scandal. Her publicity stunt where she wrote out a cheque for £13,000 should have consigned her to political history once and for all.

A cheap way of keeping your job. Some will have seen that action as an honest attempt at being honest, instead of the bullshit it was.

Our council Tax is used to pay the massive salaries of dickheads with pointless jobs within the council. Next to fuck all of it actually goes to the police, fire brigade, refuse collection and ambulance service on the ground level. Everywhere in all these services, massive funding and job-cuts have been made - so where the fuck is the money going because council tax rates have RISEN?

Just wait until Mr Cameron privatizes everything else like the NHS (most of it already is anyway) and the fire brigade. The government will continue to steal money off us for next to fuck all back in return to carry on living the lavish lifestyles they live.

Its all one big dirty con.

Alcohol Tax.
Cigarette tax.
Council tax.
Road Tax (oops, sorry - Road Fund Licence)
Value added Tax (on top of the extra tax on your fags and booze)
Bedroom Tax (not enough smaller houses for them to move in to, but fuck it - its another way of making money)

That's just your usual rant against the government, I wanted your take on Council Tax. You know, the same Council Tax your friends the Labour Party were happy to go with while they were in power.

Where do you have me down as a Labour lover?

Yes, I have a history of voting Labour but they have also moved away from their socialist roots in to 'New Labour' - just glorified Tories who are prepared to give the less well off a little more - but that's the only difference.

At least Labour invested a lot of it in the public services.

These Tory cunts are simply taking more and giving us less, telling us we need to economize, taking more off us with various other dubious taxes - all the while giving themselves massive pay rises.

They're doing nothing Labour wouldn't have done in the same position. I don't agree with a lot of the stuff the Tories are doing, but only time will tell whether it works.

And I wasn't aware MPs had given themselves a massive payrise, I'm pretty sure the Daily Mail would have been screaming that story from the rooftops.

Regardless, this is a thread about Council Tax. What is your issue with it? How could it be done better?

Could council tax not be based on household income? "If your household income falls in this bracket you pay this"

This Band method seems little dated to me. Neutral

They are in it for themselves. As far as im concerned, id be pleased if a modern day 'guy fawkes' went and blew them up...

Happy to steal off the working classes and the poor, but looking after their own.

I couldn't give a shit about the pay rises if the peoples quality of life was getting better, I could even justify it, but its not - Its getting much worse and will get much worser still. All to keep the 'social elite' rich...

But that would mean millionaires who live in 15 bedroom mansions would have to pay more.

What a stupid system, it makes more sense to make the poorer element of society suffer...
