How he earned his name, how he had Saladin tactically worried, even though Saladin had a much grater army.

How he was so close, to taking Jerusalem back.

Now this is where I get lynched but before I say who, all I have to say is that this person stuck to their principles and very rarely u-turned from what they wanted - When this person did u-turn it was because it was badly thought out! Now normally I would never say anything good from this group of people and during the time of this person there were plenty of numpties who eventually led to the devaluation of the pound in 1992.

Mixed bunch here, but Richard Ist and Thatcher FFS?
Like many Brits, I'm descended from R1 on my mum's side so I know a fair bit about the lad and it just goes to show how certain figures are romanticised by the media. I mean the guy was a sadistic gay monster. Ok I won't be judgmental about his fudgepumping activities, but he massacred English Jews, Arab cities including women and children, and anyone else he didn't like or stood in his way. Tried to kill his father on several occasions and was instrumental in carving up what remained of the Anglo Saxon fiefdoms that were still standing after Willie the Conk had finished, mercilessly putting down the poor and taxing them to death to fund his violent lifestyle. He was a twat of the first order.
Thatcher is always going to be contraversial but what I can't stand is the hypocrisy. In the name of the economy she was portrayed as a hero who was taking on the mighty unions (and the less mighty schoolchildren) - whilst quietly selling off our oil and gas resources to pay for it leading to an almighty crash and leaving us without the means to ever fully recover again. British manufacturing and energy was decimated by Thatcher - now we make bugger all in this country.
Instead of diplomacy leading to efficiency she just canned the lot and we'll forever be beholden to foreign powers as a result of the Thatcher scam. Not only hypocrisy but irony too - the dependence on foreign manufacturing and energy she caused is the very thing her supporters didn't want. We now import coals to Newcastle.
I used to think that people believe want they want to believe but the reality is that people believe what the media tell them to believe - and we and our descendants will be far worse off because of the suckers that fell for the Thatcher media hype. Piss on her grave.

Ernest Shackleton or Robert Falcon Scott (Scott of the Antarctic)?
I'm a Shack man myself.

There was at that time a race to be the first to the south pole.

Why I prefer Shackleton to Scott is that Shack had great consideration for the men in his team and would not put their lives at risk.
He lead an expedition to the pole but turned back (just short) because he knew there were insufficient and supplies to carry-on and then make it back to base.

But the name that comes to mind when Antarctic exploration comes up is Scott's.
