Both Southampton and Bolton
Wanderers are said to be inquiring over the availability of Central
Coast Mariners' defender, Trent Sainsbury.

Sainsbury,
who is easily as adept at right back as he is in the centre of defence,
has been the subject of much interest following his nomination as
Australia's Young Footballer of the Year. Although the Mariners are
reluctant to let their prized possession leave the shores of Australia,
it seems that the young defender is destined for bigger things than the A
League.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.],
the Southampton manager, knows he will need to shore up his defence in
the summer's transfer if he wants to repeat this season's impressive
display in the club's return to the Premier League. Sainsbury could be a
decent addition for the Saints, with many Australian pundits predicting
an upcoming maiden international cap with the Australian national team
for the 21 year old.

Southampton aren't the only ones
interested in Sainsbury, however, with npower Championship side, Bolton
Wanderers, also keen on capturing the Australian. Trotters' boss, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], will be hoping he can offer Sainsbury the prospect of Premier League football next year.

In
the meantime, it is the Saints who are leading the chase for Sainsbury
and he would be a useful addition to the team's leaky defence.

Bet you'd heard of Keith Andrews and N'gog.

I'm much happier signing unknown players if they are shit at least they haven't cost much. Or they turn out to be gems like Medo.

I've heard he's quick and can play a bit - a bit like Cahill according to my Aussie mate, and wants to play in the UK. Would be a good acquisition IMO. Check out this in "the Australian"

Bolton are set to sign Australian defender Trent Sainsbury after agreeing a £350,000 fee with his club Central Coast Mariners. Wanderers are trying to beat Southampton who want the 21-year-old to undergo a trial first.

There was a lad in United's reserves who broke into the first team ...Ronaldo was his name.....did you hear of him before his debut?
I understand the Aussie A league is not Prem quality...but neither are we currently.
I would say this signals the end of Ricketts. This lad can do right back & CB.

They paid millions for a young Ronaldo.

I agree with your point, but Ronaldo was a poor example. He cost £15 million, was relatively known before the move and went straight into the first team (made his debut against us I think).

He only played about 20 minutes IIRC and ripped us to bits.

Embarrassing nicky hunt and Nolan along the way.

A fee has been agreed and yet the article implies that it's not a done deal. Is this something else that hangs on whether we get promoted or not?

Still a lot to do after a fees agreed, personal terms and international clearance will need to be sorted. So hopefully that's all it's down to.

Hope we manage to get him, Im enjoying signing unknown players for a pittance it seems to work well for us.

You never know. Southampton may up their offer to £350,001.00.
Maybe Dougie has the character to swing it for us though.

He'll never play a league game for BWFC. The future is young players with experience of English football.

You said the same about Medo, think it's well established now that your ability to judge players is worse than Owen Coyle's.

True, he's probably hoping Southampton match our offer for him now seeing as they are premier league and all.
