Regional words/expressions

I use the word "mither" all the time. It means to pester, fuss or moan.
To illustrate, "Natasha mithered me via PM for dinner at Whittam Towers."
Nobody I meet from past Cheshire seems to have heard of it before.

Can you think of other examples?

*Teacakes* (or taycakes)

Even you lot in south lancashire call them something silly like 'Barm cakes' or 'Baps'.

'Can I have a bacon bap?'

It puts me off me f'kin dinner.

Tea cakes have currants in them.

A lass at work is from burnley and I have to correct her every time she says tea cakes. Apparently the ones with currents are called fruit tea cakes.

I use mither all the time and I once read an interview with Gerrard when he said it and the newspaper had to explain the meaning of the word.

Barm Cakes Oven bottom Baps (smaller) Tea Cakes do have currants in them or they do in Atherton anyway.

Batters is one il never get.

My Mrs' grew up in Greenwich... she has some weird words.

Batters for Yorkshire puddings.

Poly-roll for Kitchen roll.

Cash Till for ATM (or cash machine)

Roll for Barm

In Burnley they say 'he's a gettin' for 'he was saying'.

I only live 4 miles away and I don't say that.

I always say 'Ginnel' instead of an 'alley' and 'lobby' instead of 'potato hash'.

As Copper says above sayings can vary quite a bit in just 4 miles.
