I always loved Bennetts Lane chippy. No complaints about the chips. They're cheap and taste great. The fish on the other hand, albeit cheap are pretty poor. It's obvious that they're some cheap white fish like coley or pollock as opposed to cod or haddock. Whiteside's on Halliwell Road on the other hand do good quality fish and chips.

The one on the corner of Arnold Street?

Whe I visited a relative who lived on Arnold Street, we always used to use that chippy, as well as the bakery next door and the greengrocers next to them

Whatever happened to all these small local shops/businesses???

Chippy has to be Su's chippy. Named after his father who orginally owned the chippy, Su junior has carried on the tradition.

Pie Shop always will be ye olde pastie shop in Churchgate

It always amazes me how chips can be made so badly.

It's bloody easy to make a good chip yet the vast majority of chippies make shite chips.

Dickheads.

As there has been a couple of posts on the 'best restaurant' thread about chippys I thought I would bump up this old thread to see if we still like the same places?

Best current chippy in my view is Whitesides haliwell road, my favourite take away is peri peri chicken from Mash's on Deane road (not to be confused with Mash's Wing Ranch) there seems to be ever decreasing numbers of English cafes but my favourite for breakfast used to be the hut behind the market that's gone now

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

At the risk of getting dragged off topic, the blue cafe in Farnworth does an amazing full monty breakfast. You're right about pryces as well Boncey, it's a cracking place.
