Signings that sadly didn't work out

A conversation with a friend today somehow got round to Fabrice Fernandes. Remember him? The tricky Southampton winger that came on a free and made one league appearance.
There's been countless Fabrice Fernandes over the years. Players that had shone at other clubs but for some reason, didn't cut the mustard at Bolton. Others that spring to mind are Matt Jansen, David Thompson and Tuncay Sanli. Mind you, at least when Fernandes, Jansen and Thompson came in, the first team was already awash with quality.

Can you remember a time you were really excited about a Bolton signing and it, for some reason, just didn't work out?

Jared Borgetti. Thought he'd do better than he did.

He did well, but Fat Sam didn't give him a proper chance. He'd score and then be sub the following week.

Mario Jardel. Won the South American Golden Boot as the top scorer but did nothing for us whatsoever..

Too often came on with 3 minutes to go. Sam never really seemed to trust him.

Allardyce expected the same work rate from Borgetti as he got from Davies, he was never going to get it but he'd have probably got more goals.

i really thought Keith Andrews would be a good signing, he had a decent Euros for Ireland and had looked decent at West Brom but he has been a massive let down.

Peter Beardsley was also very average when he signed for us.

Unfortunately Cantello came a couple of years too late and it messed WBA up as well.
