Let's do the same at Doncaster, says Bolton Wanderers' David Wheater

David Wheater wants a repeat display of Saturday’s ground out win at Huddersfield when Wanderers head back to Yorkshire to face Doncaster tomorrow night.

The big centre-back was again a star performer as Wanderers stood firm and kept Terriers livewire striker Nahki Wells quiet at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Keeping the back door shut laid the foundations for Joe Mason’s late winner at the other end and Wheater hopes they can go on and do likewise in their remaining matches.

He said: “Hopefully it will be a big week.

“We played well at the back and did our job.

“We do a lot of work in training on where we should be to deal with crosses and that paid off.

“Like I said last weekend, if we can keep a clean sheet, then it gives us a chance of nicking it at the other end.

“You hope someone comes up with a goal and that’s what happened.

“Games like that are what the Championship is about.

“You have to grind it out and hope you get a chance like we did at the end.

“Everyone just needs to keep working together to keep getting wins like this one.

“I think we are playing with confidence now.

“It has showed in the last few games and we are gelling as a unit back there.

“It could be a great week for us with Doncaster up next and then a home game against Barnsley.

“I don’t see why we can’t get the nine points after this win. If we play like we did at Huddersfield we can grind results out.”

Wheater believes the side are playing as well as they have all season and on a personal level, he feels better than ever after surgery on his troublesome knee.

It has restricted him to just 18 appearances this season but he has enjoyed a run in the team of late and admits the season is probably ending at the wrong time for the team.

The 27-year-old added: “You could say the season is ending at the wrong time for us because we have hit our stride a bit.

“Naturally, we would have liked to have shown form like this earlier in the season, but it wasn’t to be.

“Speaking for myself, Me and Zat are doing well as a pair.

“I have said many times, I wasn’t really ready at the start of the season.

“But I’m raring to go every game now and Zat is playing terrifically well.

“Tim, Alan, Baps, everyone who plays at the back in fact has been in good form so we just need to keep it going.

“We have competition in every position virtually so we need to keep playing well every game to keep our places.

“We just need to keep playing well until the end of the season for the fans.

“They have been terrific all season – even at the beginning when we weren’t winning they were always behind us.”

No! Let's dominate them instead of riding our luck as we did against Huddersfield - nobody wants a repeat of that.

I like the tactics.

soak up the pathetic pressure they try and inflict then slice and dice them in the final 5 minutes.

breaking their hearts.

Mourinho style tactics really... negative twat that he is.
