Wanderers legend John McGinlay believes the addition of fellow Scot Alan Hutton has been integral to the team’s recent good form.

The on-loan right-back has helped the Whites to a run of just one defeat in 12 Championship matches and three successive victories against Yorkshire opposition that has also extended an unbeaten league run to six games.

The 29-year-old Aston Villa defender has been involved in eight of those matches and Wanderers have kept clean sheets in half of those against Derby, Blackpool, Huddersfield and Barnsley at the weekend.

But it is no surprise to McGinlay who has long been an admirer of his compatriot.

The ex-Wanderers striker told The Bolton News: “He is a Scottish international and you know what you are getting with Alan.

“He is a good all-round defender but also gives you quality in possession playing out from the back.

“He links well going forward and his final ball is also quality.

“It was fantastic to get him to Bolton and then to keep him until the end of the season and the results prove what a good addition he has been.

“He has got fitter with each game and better as well in my opinion.”
