1. Mini Metro 1 Litre (Plastic interior, no power and looked gay.)

2. Austin Maestro 1.4 Litre (Linkage ball & socket joint on the bottom of the gear stick had a habit of coming apart leaving me with precisely no gears. Quick job to fix, but a constant pain in the arse.)

3. Mark 3 Escort. (Handled so badly in the wet and on bends, that I thought it had been converted to rear-wheel drive. Utter shit.)

Fecking hell! I forgot about the Metro, we had a 1.0 cream coloured one, absolute awful car, I need to replace the Vectra with the Metro on my list.

Mine was a shitty gold colour which added considerably to its gayness.

I once opened the hatch-back to get the shopping out and it came off in my hands.

Fucking piece of junk but it actually got nicked and burnt out which did me a massive favour.

1. MG ZR no wonder MG/Rover went out of business, turning circle of the titanic and had more leaks than St Davids day.
2. Fiat cinquecento had more powerful hairdryers.
3. Citroen C4 1.4- French car......need I say more.

My missus had a Y reg Nissan Micra two door 1.1 Sport automatic. It was like being inside a sardine can. It had tiny wheels with a terrible turning circle. On the automatic transmission you could switch it to sport mode but it didn't go any faster it just revved the bollocks out of it.

My first car was an K reg two door 1.6 Ford Capri. Insurance was a lot cheaper back then. It was painted red and when I was driving it I always imagined I was like Starsky and Hutch.

Anyone remember the Ford XR 2 ( Fiesta ) and XR3 ( Escort )? Boy could they move. A friend of mine bought a brand new X reg XR2 and it was like shit off a shovel. He left me for dead in my Avenger. He had only had it a couple of weeks when he woke up one morning to find it on bricks with all the alloy wheels stolen. He had new wheels fitted with locking wheel nuts but a few months after that the car disappeared completely and he never saw it again.

All the 17 year old me ever wanted was an XR2 with Pepperpot alloys.

They were the epitome of cool for us kids back then.

When I was 15 my mate's brother got one in white with green trim and we thought it was the coolest car ever.

From memory, I think they only had a 1.6 engine but they shifted.

I'm off to the Autotrader website for a "restoration project."

Don't tell the wife.......

Many of the old British Leyland / Austin range were crap as well. The Austin Princess, Allegro and Montego were all rubbish. The Hillman Avenger and Talbot Sunbeam were shite as well.

Anyone remember the old Datsun range before they became Nissan? The Datsun Sunny was a right old rustbucket. They rarely lasted more than four years before they needed a new paint job.

When we were at college, my mate had a green Morris Ital, which was basically a Marina with even more rust and less style.

It was garbage and bits regularly fell off it.

But it got us to quite a few away games, so it can't have been all bad.

Cars used to be dipped in salt water and left to fester and allow the metal maggots to breed before spraying with paint. Nowadays with the prforation warranty this is not possible and times have improved with technology.
The worst car I've had was a 77 Chrysler Avenger. Everytime a bulb went it mean't a full rewire!!

What do we all drive now?

I've got a Hyundai S3 Coupe with 2.7 V6 engine.

It's not the quickest and it drinks like a fish but it's got loads of torque through the gears and I love it.

I've got a BMW 545I it's a 4.4 engine that's a V8 and it goes like stink! ) 0-60 in just over 5 seconds and it guzzles, but talk about putting a smile on your face.  Very Happy  I've battered a Honda Type R and a Ford Focus ST, I get around 20mpg, but it's a joy to drive. I've just had a stainless steel exhaust put on it too, just to annoy the population of Culcheth.

My annual insurance is just over £350.00, the joys of getting older!
