Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray felt that Dean Moxey was lucky not to have been sent-off for a late challenge on Royston Drenthe.

The Wanderers full-back was on a yellow card when he thundered into a tackle on the Owls winger, who came off the bench for his debut half an hour before the end.

Gray blasted his side for failing to take their chances to claim all three points at the Macron Stadium and felt his chances could have been improved had referee Andy Haines cracked down harder.

“Their left back had been booked so I just brought on Royston to cause them a little bit of a problem,” he said.

“Even Royston could have had a hat-trick.

“In training he has been picking the bottom corner but for some reason he was lashing at it.

“He took a heavy challenge; I thought it was a nasty challenge.

“The referee decided not to give a free kick but I thought it was over the top.

"Credit though, he got back on his feet. He will cause people problems but we have to drown him with the ball.”

Gray, who spent time on loan at Wanderers as a player in the mid-1980s, was upset Wednesday had not claimed a third straight away win.

“I had a pop at the lads. I have just got the chances flashing through my head,” he said.

“Joe Mattock with his header from a corner, Tom Lees; header being cleared off the line, Royston’s chance at the end.

“It was just a case of passing it into the goal.

“Such a one-sided game. All I was doing was looking at their 18-yard box because we were peppering the keeper.

“We just need to be more ruthless.”

Moxey was awful on Saturday, i don't think he passed to a white shirt all afternoon and yes he was lucky to still be on the field.
