Jack has a giant beanstalk...

Tonight I went to watch INTO THE WOODS. The fairytale film thingy. I found it packed with inuendo and hidden sexual meanings as did the other half. I wondered if the rest of the audience noticed it or to what level they actually "got it".

So, as with all things you need an answer to, I googled it, but I couldn't really find anyone who saw the film the way we saw it. Sure people got the most obvious sexual references but it seems that most people didn't understand what they have watched, including whoever does the reviews in The New Yorker and Huffington Post to name just two.

I won't go into full detail here about everything, but take Jack and the beanstalk (below),,,

A quick google of the true meaning or hidden message in J and the BS brings up loads of results about it being a moral story about facing up to things bigger than you, triumphing, rags to riches, and not being too greedy. But this is my interpretation... (im still working on it too)

Jack and his mother, a widow, live together. They have a cow which no longer gives milk. Jack sells the cow to a stranger with beans, a beanstalk grows at his house, jack steals money from the giants but eventually gets caught.

To me it is clear that they are poor because the husband is dead and there is no income. The mother is the dried up cow, she gives no milk, aka cant have any more kids and is therfore unable to get a new husband. So the cow has to be sold. ie the mother has to be sold. Jack finds a stranger and he sells the cow to the stranger. Aka pimps her out. An inevitable beanstalk appears (in the mans undies) and while the man giant is distracted (clothes discarded) it is Jack's job to steal the giants/mans gold etc. He gets away with it a couple of times but ends up getting caught when the giant wakes up earlier than usual (comes quickly) and the man/giant comes after him....

Am I on the right tracks here, or going insane?

Just to get back to all you numb buggers out there... I did a bit of further reading about this subject... It turns out that jack and the beanstalk has got quite a lot to do with erections and so on.

Not only that but red riding hood was about a young girl straying off the path and losing her virginity. Also the red cape was often worn by hookers of the time.

All the other classics have similar stories to them, the original version of sleeping beauty winds up with the prince not kissing her but rather fucking her in her sleep.

So there.
