It appears with a tweet from Kevin Davies' Twitter account - he has decided to hang his boots up.

Kevin Davies calls time on playing career

Bolton Wanderers legend Kevin Davies has officially called time on his professional playing career in the game.

Davies, who represented Bolton for a near ten-year period, made a total of 407 appearances for the club, scoring 84 goals.

“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a few weeks now,” he told [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. “I had a few offers to play on, but I didn’t really feel I could have done myself justice.

“Physically, I could play on for another year, but I just didn’t feel like I had the fire in my belly to carry on and that’s something you can’t play without.

“I’m now busy with my media work. I’m also looking to finalise my UEFA A Licence and do a bit more coaching, both locally and professionally.

“I’ve always tried to look forward. I’ve always been one for wondering what’s happening next and have never really looked back to dwell on my achievements or the teams I’ve played for.

“I’ve got a few old tapes from when I was really young, so maybe now I’ll dust those off and have a watch. I’m thankful that my children got to see me play, and to go out on a high at Wembley with Preston was great.

“With all the teams I’ve played for have had relative success. We knew the clubs were never going to be challenging for titles, but to have 15 years in the Premier League, some great cup runs and to have played in Europe is amazing.

“I joined Bolton in my mid-20s under Sam Allardyce. It came at the right time and with Sam it was almost like meeting a girl. We were good together at the time and it just worked.

“The first season at Bolton was amazing. I worked so hard and Sam rewarded me with contract. The six or seven years that followed were amazing. The players we had were unreal and I’ve got some wonderful memories.

“To have been the armband captain was great and that meant a lot to me. I tried to lead from the front, both on and off the pitch.

“I loved the ten years. Bolton took up a lot of my career. There were plenty of highs and a few lows, even a few tears at times, but what we built together was something special.”

one of my favourite ever Bolton players, when he was at his peak he was amazing at leading the line and never gave defenders a minutes peace. He was never prolific but brought a lot to the team and never looked out of place with the likes of Camp, Okocha, Hierro and Djorkaeff.

Hopefully he will be back at the club in some capacity before long.

There were some other cracking players in that clip. We could do with some of them now.

He wasn't a legend. Good player at times, but the antics of him and his wife later in his BWFC career spoilt everything for me.

I'd rather see a tribute to Gerald Cid.

There were a lot of games where he was truly awful.

75% of his BWFC career he was shit. Which I suppose is 25% less than the current crop of bellends.

Rightly regarded as one of the best signings we've ever made, from looking as if his career was over to 9 years leading the line? Used to love seeing him clatter into Evra and it says it all that John Terry said he was one of the players he hated playing against.

Legend.

And I've just read his interview.....still harking on that BWFC shafted him by not keeping him on.

You were shit Davies, you should have been moved on at least two years before you were. Think yourself lucky.

I watch football to see great goals. Can't remember many from Davies. I remember a shitload of missed chances though.

Nowhere near a legend.

That's twice today Nat's been owned.

First I blew her away with my awesome rhymes what I spat at her and now this.

Whittam's finished as a force on here.

(And probably the entire interweb.)

It's just like Okocha all over again.

Like Okocha, he had some good moments, but everyone seems to forget game after game of aimless long ball shite and Davies missing sitter after sitter. There was a time towards the end of his BWFC career that there would be a collective groan when he was announced in the team.

And his wife picked out his pants.

Davies and Jaaskelainen were two of the best signings we ever made. Fact.

It's not a fact just because you say it.

He was far from the worst player we ever had, but people are using the word "legend".

John McGinlay was a legend. Davies isn't fit to lace his boots.
