i have a facebook friend, i've known her since Primary school but haven't actually seen her for donkeys years.

She is always on facebook and is constantly telling everyone how she's fallen out with her ex-husband, her Sisters and loads of other people.

Yesterday she received some very sad news, her Mum had died and she had been told by text from her Sister and wasn't with her because they had all fallen out again.

You may wonder how i know all this as i'm not a close friend, but within minutes of receiving the call she announced it on Facebook.

I feel very sorry for her but should she really be going on Facebook with this kind of very personal stuff?

It's a sign of the times..I'm afraid. It's not for me but then again..each to their own.

i've had to join facebook last week, much to my dismay.  obviously i don't have to but social media marketing seems to be the best (and cheapest) way of getting your business name out there.

fingers crossed it works.  (anyone want to share my page Smile feel free, no it isn't a porn business magoo)

Facebook isn't for me either, I don't want the whole world knowing my stuff.

I go on fb daily, and enjoy hearing of people I know. I can not abide the over sharing which goes on, and I cringe when couples post to each other "Lovely dinner hunny bunny love you xxxx" "Know you do baby, xxxx" "You didn't say you loved me back, baby, xxxx" "ha you know I do baby, xxxx" "yes, I know you do baby, xxxx" verbatim. And it really winds me up when someone does a "look at me, and ask me whats up" post. "if you know who doesn't stop I'm going to rip their head off", inevitably followed by "why, whats up, hun?" and "whats happened now" with a "ive pm'd you, grrr". It is just possible given my health I am spending too much time online!

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

All of the above is why I don't bother with social media. Add to that the endless requests for something to do with farmville or other equally shit games and it drove me mad. I know people who have about 1500 Facebook friends and only speak to about 4 of them in real life. Don't see the point.

Never been on fb or twitter.
People might search me out and try to hurt me.

Again.

One of the biggest problems with Facebook are the number of times women get on and point out that we chaps are lucky to have them in our lives as we are ignorant, ogrish loafers who don't deserve them. But they love puppies, each other, woop woop and reveal the most intimate part of their lives. Our next door neighbour posted that he (Male for a change) was knackered after working all night, which resulted in him getting called in for an interview without coffee as he was claiming benefits. It's a dangerous site as well as you are invited to click on a dear little baby or puppy suffering, and when you do, personal details are harvested.

I do use social media - but I don't broadcast my every moment on there. Don't argue on there like a lot of people seem to do. I tend to post pictures as its a great way to keep all your photos online and so the rest of the family can look through the pictures and keep up to date with their nephews, nieces, grand kids etc.

Twitter is great too as its an extremely fast way to get the latest news & gossip!

It seems to be a stalkers paradise where people tend to follow their ex partners around etc.

I remember seeing on my friends facebook account that one of his friends had posted "Just at my mums having a brew", extremely sad!

I've never really got the concept.

I was brought up in an era where we didn't even own a telephone, let alone a computer.

We spoke to people face to face - and if we never kept in touch with some it was for a reason - we didn't want too.

Ok, things have changed but I don't see the point of living your life on the computer - waste it on there by all means - but don't LIVE it.

If you like someone then make the effort to see them, or they you.

I think I've posted on here before how my daughter and her room mates at uni communicated with each other by  social media even though they were in the next rooms to each other!?

Communication is largely made by body language and voice inclinations rather than the actual words themselves.  I'm convinced the current and future generations will have difficulty actually dealing with each other as they don't seem to actually do it in person, eye to eye, much anymore.

Each to their own I guess, I imagine if I was born just twenty years or so ago I too would be facebooking, tweeting, snapchatting and whatever else they do these days.
