“Special” talent Zach Clough has been backed to become a star attraction at Wanderers in his current run of form.

With six goals in the bag by the last week of November 21-year-old is just one strike away from matching his haul for last season.

Clough had initially struggled for full fitness in League One but is now a pleasure to watch, says his manager Phil Parkinson.

“Some of the stuff Zach did against Coventry was quality,” he told The Bolton News. “He produced a lovely bit of technique for the free-kick and will be disappointed it didn’t sneak in. His finish for the goal was fantastic, though, and he might have had a second.

“His movement and his intelligence in that first 45 minutes caught Coventry off-guard. He is a special talent and some of the turns he did coming in off the line are great for our supporters to watch.

“We’re really pleased with him and hopefully there are many more good Zach Clough performances for them to see.”

While Clough now has 14 goals in his 32 appearances at the Macron Stadium, Tuesday night saw the continuation of a hellish spell for target man Gary Madine.

Denied by a wonder save from visiting keeper Lee Burge in the first half, the big striker has now not scored in his last 12 outings despite getting rave reviews for other areas of his game.

“Gary was a real handful and he is getting frustrated that he isn’t scoring goals at the moment,” Parkinson added. “However, we’re winning games of football and that’s the most important thing.

“Should we be scoring more goals? Maybe. Midweek was like the Grimsby game in the cup in that we dominated and had chances. At 1-0, it’s game on.”

Too skinny and too lightweight.

We haven't had a 20 goal a season striker for years, so I am assuming that Nat's comment is tongue in cheek. Clough won't be here next season if we don't get promoted and maybe not even then, he has potential to be a very good player so we should enjoy having him here while he is.

We still haven't got one.
We've played 20 games so far, so he's on target to get 16 goals over the season.

While he's this skinny and lightweight he won't make it at a decent level.

My vibrator has more meat on it.

Embarrassing post. He could score 30 goals over the next 15 games.

If he's still with us after Jan.

Ha, I knew someone would make that comparison. Ignoring the fact Messi is neither skinny nor lightweight, Clough is not going to be the next Messi.

Is it your reading or your 'rithmetic that let's you down so often?

Let me mansplain it to you:
If he'd scored 40 goals over the last 20 games he would be on target to score 30 over the next 15 games, but he only scored 7. It's all to do with the sums love.

Meanwhile thanks for forewarning us by prefacing your nonsense with the words "embarrassing post".

Perhaps you could begin every post you write with that?

Another embarrassing post. Just because a player scores 5 in 10 games doesn't mean he can't score 15 in the next 10 games.

Thanks for the heads up - but I went ahead and read it anyway.

Nor does it mean he will.

Given the latest news the arithmetic may all be hypothetical because unless this is resolved quickly Zach will be sold in Jan to keep the club afloat.

Can't see any of the big boys being interested ......but maybe a decent Champs team might toss us a couple of million. If he goes to keep the club afloat then we are probably done for this season.
