Stelios Giannakopoulos believes Wanderers can turn their season around after a slow start to their 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

The former Greece international was delighted to see the Whites win promotion from Sky Bet League One last season and has called for patience as Phil Parkinson's men look to kickstart their current campaign.

Bolton are yet to taste victory in the league this year, but did record victories over Crewe Alexandra and Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.

And after attending the Trotters' opening match of the season, Stelios is confident Wanderers can turn their season around and establish themselves in the English second tier as they prepare to lock horns with the Owls once again.

"It’s still early in the season and there is a long way to go," the Wanderers fan favourite told bwfc.co.uk. "The team have been a bit unlucky so far and will build on their early results.

"The Championship is a very competitive league. English football is the best in the world. It’s not just the Premier League but the Championship too.

"The games are tight and if you go around the world, you will see that it is still one of the best leagues even though it is not the top-flight."

Stelios continued; "It’s not been easy but the team did the first step by coming up last year.

"After that, you go from there. They now need to build to reach the next level but first they need to stabilise.

"We need to be patient and work together. The things that we want, other clubs want too. There is a lot of competition for promotion into the Premier League.

"I believe they will perform and get the results they need to stay in this division and establish themselves in this division."
