Filipe Morais has backed Wanderers to secure Sky Bet Championship survival, labelling the prospect ‘a fantastic achievement’ and one that would top last year's promotion back to the second tier.

The 32-year-old, who returned from injury in Tuesday night’s loss to Millwall, was one of the Whites' star performers during the second half of the 2016/17 season as they defied the odds to secure automatic promotion at the first time of asking.

And with Bolton forging a reputation for silencing their doubters having previously been written off during Phil Parkinson's two years in charge at Macron Stadium, Morais is confident the Trotters can do so again as they prepare to travel to rivals Barnsley this weekend..

“To stay up would be a fantastic achievement,” the midfielder told bwfc.co.uk. “Especially with the resources we have in comparison to other teams in the league.

“I think the Sky Bet Championship is right up there in terms of the intensity in the games, the competitiveness of the teams and the actual quality of the players.

“We’ve never felt too comfortable this season – we know we need to win games to stay in the division.

“It’s in our own hands, I know these lads have the right mentality and I’ll back them through anything.”

From now until May 6, Morais has his sights firmly set on returning to full fitness and contributing as much as he can to the side for the four-match run-in.

“I want to play, get a few assists and win games,” he said.

“My aim is to get my head down, work as hard as I can and make sure that this great club is in the Sky Bet Championship next season.

“That’s what we all want.”
