After guiding his side to victories over West Brom, Reading and Birmingham, Wanderers boss Parkinson is up for manager of the month.

He is joined by Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa, Middlesbrough’s Tony Pulis and Blackburn Rovers’ Tony Mowbray.

Alnwick has been in excellent form for the Whites – his fingertip saves against West Brom and Birmingham bettered by a couple of astonishing stops against Sheffield United.

Parkinson feels last season’s club player of the year has made a solid start - but argues there could have been a few contenders for the shortlist within the camp.

“Ben has been good and he’s an important player for us but there have been a few who have had good starts to the season,” he said.

“We don’t want to sit back and say ‘oh, fantastic’ because we want to push on again. There’s good competition around the squad.”

The Wanderers keeper is joined by Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe, Brentford’s Ollie Watkins and Bristol City’s Andreas Wiemann.

The winners’ list will be announced by Sky tomorrow morning.
