Ben Alnwick hopes Phil Parkinson will be given the opportunity to get Wanderers out of trouble.

Defeat to Swansea City put Bolton into the bottom three for the first time this season and gave rise to more speculation over the manager’s positon going into the November international break.

The current run of six points from 13 league games equals Parkinson’s worst run of results in two-and-a-half years in charge.

He refused to answer questions on his future after the final whistle on Saturday evening but maintained the coaching staff would do everything in their power to turn results around.

Alnwick, captain for the day against Swansea, says the dressing room remains firmly behind the manager.

“The gaffer isn’t on the pitch,” he told The Bolton News. “He puts the team together, knows we’re good lads, good players, but he’s not out there. The lads need to put up with the stick and rise to the challenge.

“The gaffer has been brilliant since he has been here and no-one can say any different. He’s got a good team around him and everyone wants to play for him.

“It’s like any club, when you are losing games the players and staff are just as frustrated as everyone else. It’s easy to start saying ‘this isn’t good enough’ but look at the gaffer’s CV since he’s been here and the situation he’s been in. It’s been brilliant.

“We want to turn it around for him as much as everyone else. We are fully behind him, it has never been a doubt.”

Making the goalkeeper captain is a joke. I think it happened once in Jossy's Giants, it didn't work then either.

We know Parky has played a big role off the pitch in getting the players paid and mediating disputes with anderson. The fact they’re still behind him is a massive point in his favour.

They're hardly likely to say anything negative while he's still in charge.

Rubbish, players are renowned for turning on managers. If they didn’t want him hear they’d be pointed in their remarks or say nothing at all. They’re clearly behind him.

Link me to any report of any Bolton player slagging off any of our recent managers before they were sacked.

Coyle, Freedman, Megson or Lennon.

Why would he say that if he wanted him gone?

He's the captain, it's expected.

Still waiting for that link.......

You want me to find an article showing silence from the players when the managers under pressure? I’m okay thanks.

You said players regularly turn on the manager - I asked you to provide evidence.

Why do I need to provide evidence? Any numpty who watched football knows this to be the case, don’t know why you’re trying to deny it.

I think lots of players have a pop after the manager is sacked/resigned. I don't remember too many doing it while the manager was still employed, and I've certainly never heard of a Bolton player doing it.

If it's so rife name me 2 Bolton players that have done it.

You’re continually ignoring half the point, popping off is less common - but staying silent and wanting a manager sacked is not at all.

Alnwick is not the club captain, and even if he was he’s under no obligation to say that.

This was your statement.

I am simply asking you to prove it, I can't remember a Bolton player ever having a pop at a current manager.

It might be simpler to just admit you were wrong.

I haven’t said any Bolton players have had a pop at previous managers? I do think that players turn on managers and stop playing for them and publicly supporting them though.

Must admit though I thought examples of players having a pop at managers in general would be easier to find.
