Two young unarmed policewomen cut down in their prime by a one-eyed nutjob. The debate about whether the police should be routinely armed has been raised again. It wouldn't have made any difference to the case in Manchester even if the lasses had been armed. They were ambushed answering a routine call so it's not as if they were attending an armed siege.

I know the coppers have had some stick over their handling of Hillsborough but it wasn't the front line coppers who tried to cover up the poor handling of the tragedy.

' Thou shall not kill' says the Bible and the do gooders who argue against the return of capital punishment. Try telling that to the armed gangs who terrorise our banks and building societies or the unarmed bobby lying dead in the street. They wont hear you.

Very very sad.

This is one of the most sickening and horrendous crimes ever in this country and we've seen some vile stuff over the years.

These people think they're hard men but they're only tough when they have a weapon in their hands or a gang of other morons to back them up.

They are cowardly scum. This guy allegedly murdered two unarmed women then immediately gave himself up so he didn't have to face any violence against himself.

I'd like to think that the person guilty of this atrocity would eventually face a savage time at the hands of other prison inmates but of course they are all low-life shite like him so unfortunately that won't happen.

Was reading up on Harry Roberts the Police killer from 1966, he killed two policemen. He's still locked up, showing no signs of remorse for what he did.

Today's shootings were terrible and with it being young women, made it worse for me. just hope he suffers and dies a slow death begging for mercy, the bastard.

There is now talk that a hand-grenade was used in the entrapment.

Just where are they getting these hand-grenades?

Is this person involved in the grenade attack just a couple or so weeks ago in Salford?

I believe, just like many, that guns should NOT be part of the normal police uniform - nothing would have stopped these two unfortunate police-women from being murdered yesterday - not even a flack-jacket.

I don't think the majority of the police would like to be routinely armed as a matter of course.

Yep it's the same fella, apparantly he called the police to a burgalry shot them and set the grenade off.

Apparantly he was on bail for another murder after killing a guy in a pub a couple of months ago.

Bring back hanging for this kind of thing IMO.

After being arrested for the initial murder in the pub he was arrested and granted bail. He then went and shot and killed the first victims father. It is clearly some sort of gangland feud.

He's clearly a coward though, because by handing himself in he knew the cops couldn't shoot him.
