On Thursday 11 February, Calva D’Auge finished eighth of 13 in the 4.45 at Kempton, in Division 2 of Class 4 ‘“Jumpers’ Bumper” National Hunt Flat race over 2m. Calva D’Auge jumped off behind the leaders, headed by Goa Lil, and travelled strongly under Harry Cobden. Calva D’Auge maintained this position heading into the home bend, and he looked poised to challenge as they levelled up into the straight. Harry niggled Calva D’Auge along with two furlongs to run, but there was limited response and he soon dropped back through the field, as the leaders showed a better turn of foot to quicken up. Calva D’Auge finished eighth, beaten 9 1/2 lengths by the winner, Before Midnight.
After the race, assistant trainer Harry Derham said Calva D’Auge travelled well through the race, but he lacked a change of gear when coming under pressure in the last two furlongs. Harry said Calva D’Auge is currently excelling as a 2m4f hurdler on a slower surface, and he was not able to use his full potential here. Harry is hopeful he will return to form over hurdles with conditions more in his favour.
Our View: Before the race we thought Calva D’Auge would run well, but these races can be a bit of a lottery, as the Jumping form seldom translates to these all-weather bumpers. We were pleased to see Calva D’Auge travel well and agree with Harry that he should be much better suited by a return to hurdles and his favoured conditions next time he runs, all being well.

Mark Johnston says Dutch Decoy came out of his race at Newcastle last Thursday in good form. Mark is keen to run Dutch Decoy again from his current mark of 86, as he is likely to rise in the weights when reassessed on Tuesday 16 February. Mark says there are a few horses who are out of form in this race, unlike Dutch Decoy, and he hopes he runs another sound race.

Just bought the complete Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister, a bargain at £13. Not watched them for a few years, and, as I'm nearing the end of my Twilight Zone binge, thought they'd be a good follow up.
God knows there's little enough on tv that doesn't have me throwing my slippers at it.

Progammes don't come any better than that! Electric! Amazing plotting, characterisation, direction, acting, script, intrigue....even music and sound...Keeley Hawes is brilliant in it.

Although I've gone highbrow recently. CH81 are showing The Lone Ranger from the very start. Great stuff. Tonto always manages to get himself captured and tied to a chair. Brilliant.

Didn't pull up any trees, but on the day he signed we waited outside to get his autograph, and he spent a good twenty minutes chatting with us. We came away buzzing. Nice bloke.
