Wanderers have no new injuries heading into their EFL Trophy clash with Crewe – but Ian Evatt does anticipate making changes to the team beaten by Bradford City.

Reiss Greenidge has returned to full training after a minor hamstring issue, Muhammadu Faal is out with a foot injury and Dennis Politic and Liam Edwards (both knee) are long-term casualties.

Otherwise, Ian Evatt has his whole squad to select from as he looks to bounce back from the Carabao Cup defeat.

“There’s a bit of fatigue because it is our first proper competitive match, so with Saturday in mind we might need to manage a few tomorrow,” he explained.

“Whatever team I pick should be strong enough to win the game.”

Evatt also revealed that Matt Alexander is likely to remain with the club in the short-term as understudy to Billy Crellin, having made considerable progress in the last couple of months.

The addition of veteran player-coach Matt Gilks left many to speculate that the homegrown keeper could be loaned out for experience this season.

But Evatt has confirmed that Alexander is regarded as the club’s number two at present.

“Billy at the moment is our number one – I have been really pleased with him and he made some fantastic saves at the weekend,” he said.

“No disrespect to Fleetwood but if you are England’s goalkeeper through the young ages and playing there, you are obviously doing something right.

“He has shown me has a bright future ahead.

“Matt is improving, I must, say. Improving fast.

“Matt Gilks is doing a fantastic job with him and Billy. Both young goalkeepers have got a lot to learn but physically they are developing.

“They are in the gym a lot. And to be a good goalkeeper nowadays you have to be agile but also strong and physical as well.

“Matty might eventually have to play games but, for now, he’s on our bench and he’s our number two.”

I can't believe that with all that's going on, this competition is still on the agenda.

Have to agree. We really could do without this.
