The wife has had enough of the kids and is demanding 3 nights away at a hotel.

I've spent the last two hours searching Trip Advisor but can't put my finger on one that would suit us.

Can anyone recommend a hotel that they've stayed at within a 3 hour drive of Bolton?

Depends what you are looking for really, if you want a quiet 3 day away I would say the Lakes.

Not sure how far the nearest one away is but I hear the Centre Parks are supposed to be excellent, if you're into that kind of stuff.

My wife doesn't want to be in the same town as kids, nevermind the same venue!

I've never been myself but I've been told this place is fantastic -

Abbey House - Barrow - Lake District on the doorstep.

The Masons Arms, Strawberry Hill near Windermere or the Damson Dene near Kendall. Amos will look after you at the Damson Dene..

Passi,

Try this one.... I know The MD's wife as we were at school together, but it is a wonderful hotel in gorgeous surroundings.

At the Damson Dene, Amos is a Polish waiter. I kid you not!

You're not taking this seriously RT, my marriage is on the line and you're making jokes about polish waiters.

Yes, Edinburgh was my wife's preferred destination - but have you seen the price of some of those city centre hotels!!

Yeah some are expensive, stayed in almost all of them. I can recommend The Apex Waterloo Place, very nice. Cheaper but pretty nice is the novotell Edinburgh Centre.

Not a fan of the Radisson Blu on the Royal Mile - crap.

The glasshouse is a bit special too.

If you don't mind roughing it, this former B&B is at the cheaper end of the accommodation market. It shouldn't eat up too much of your disposable income. It's known locally as Heartbreak Hotel. ( -1 star )

Looks good RT, but I've heard the proprietor is an arsehole. And the plumbing is shit.

Well I never, the only other Amos' I knew was the character from Emmerdale Farm and, of course, the Book of Amos from the Old Testament

Seriously, I went to the Damson Dene last summer having watched ' The Hotel ' on Channel 4. I met Amos in the flesh. He now has a home office work permit to stay in the UK. It's just pure coincedence but his first name is Amos.

My ex girlfriend used to live round the corner from that "hotel", walked past it every day going to the train station.

Delete my posts all you like. I wonder what social services have to say about a grown man and father justifying statutory rape on the internet whilst pretending to be a woman. Something he has done for a few hours a day for the best part of ten years.

Surely it was a hypothetical question rather than a genuine scenario ? That's how I saw it.
