Whites boss Ian Evatt on transfer plans and being a 'sustainable club' 16255945

The transfer window is now open, but Ian Evatt and Wanderers will not be ripping up their plan to do things sustainably.

The amount of money being spent in League One seems to keep increasing as clubs battle to make it to the Championship.

But Evatt isn’t worrying about the financial power of some of their promotion rivals and takes pride in being a “sustainable” club.

“We want to do things differently here, we don’t want to take risks. We want to try to run a sustainable football club,” he told The Bolton News.

“There are very few of those around and if we can do that and still have some success, then that is fantastic. Why wouldn’t we try?

“Obviously, historically we are always going to be put into that group. But the way we see things and the way we want to do things is different to those clubs.

“We are happy with what we are trying to do and how we are putting this football club on a solid and sound footing. We will see again what the end of the season brings.”

Several opposition managers have lumped Wanderers with the big spenders in the division, and Evatt understands why they would make that assumption given the size and stature of the club.

But he insists it is not the case and is grateful that the ownership shares his vision to “do things differently”.

“Myself and the ownership group have always been aligned from day one,” he added. “We don’t think (spending big) is a sustainable way to run a football club, we think it is risk taking.

“We want to do things differently. We want to try to be sustainable and not put this football club at risk.

“We want to make sure this club is around forever, and it was very nearly not which would have been an absolute travesty. We don’t want to put ourselves in that position again.

“People can speculate. I always hear managers talk about our budget because of the name and size of the football club, but that is just deflecting from their own club. If they do their due diligence and they see the actual numbers, they will know the truth.

“We know the truth, we know what we are trying to do here. It is that simple and we are all very much aligned on that.”

Doesn't want to take risks? He bloody should, because this "safe" attitude to signings is killing us.

How many of his signings could be classed as a success? How many have improved under him? How many could we sell for an actual fee?

Not many is the obvious answer.

Nice people with nice manners but not much money at all
