'Doing everything we can' - Evatt's praise for attacking trio 17924754

Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has hailed the “big effort” from his depleted strike department in recent weeks.

With Dion Charles, Victor Adeboyejo, Dan Nlundulu and Carlos Mendes Gomes all out injured, the trio of Aaron Collins, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Cameron Jerome have had to roll up their sleeves as the Whites battle to keep up their promotion push.

“It has had to be (a big effort), we have had no other option,” Evatt told The Bolton News. “It has been amazing.

“It would be easy for us to sit here and feel very sorry for ourselves and be in a completely different position.

“We have got nine players out and they are not just any players, they are key first-team players. Every injury we seem to get isn’t a little one, it is significant.

“But we have to take ownership of ourselves and try to win five or eight more games, whatever that may be. If we can do that, we know that we will be where we want to be.

“Next season, it doesn’t matter if you win the league or go up through the play-offs, you are in the same position.

“We need to get the job done as best we can and we will be doing everything we can to make that happen.”

Collins scored a brilliant hat trick in the 5-2 victory against Reading, with Bodvarsson also bagging a brace.

The opener came after just 11 minutes, and Evatt felt it was vital to get off to a strong start.

“I think it was important for the stadium," he added. "We wanted to have lots of final third actions in the first 15 minutes, test their keeper, get the crowd off their feet and get the energy in the stadium, which provides us with energy. I think they did that really well.”
