Just heard on the radio that Tony Benn has died after a long illness.

Really sad in my opinion, as he was one of the last of a dying breed - a politician with true integrity and an understanding of how the world should work.

I was inspired to study Politics at University by hearing him speak in the mid 80's.

If you're interested in that kind of thing, read one of the many authorised biographies on him.

He came from a priveliged background and didn't need to put himself out to help us common folk, but his innate sense of right and a conviction to try and make people's lives better drove him to dedicate his life to the Socialist movement and today's Labour politicians could learn a lot from his attitude.

RIP Tony Benn.

I liked Tony Benn. Took a lot of stick for being posh, but he was a bit of a loose cannon who stuck to his principles and didn't let anyone on either side of the house get away with any sort of hypocrisy. Not afraid to be unpopular if he thought something was wrong. Admired him for that.

I actually enjoyed listening to him. He was seen by some as a maverick and a loose cannon but he was a deeply passionate humanitarian. He spoke a lot of sense and had the courage of his convictions to never waver from his beliefs.

He was a politician who actually cared for the people he represented. A rare commodity indeed. RIP.

Party politics aside, this was a peoples politician who stuck to his beliefs. a great man a great politician who had the intellect to become prime minister but would not bend.

What i found truly remarkable after reading his final diaries was his energy, even in his mid 80's he was attending marches and doing public speaking. remarkable man.

Finally got round to reading this thread. You've all summed him up pretty well. Certainly spoke his mind and didn't give a shit to the consequences. Some interesting stuff in the mirror today as you would expect. Given being such a chivalrous man I wonder what he actually thought of the Blue Witch?

......#fuckin mental.

I want AD to come and work with me.

Not for his "stealth-mode, deadly killer" skills, oh no........

I want to sit him in the corner and just talk.

I would never bore of his crazy ramblings......

Come on, AD....You know you want to........
