And according to Dougie, we will be signing all our main targets this week.

Not sure whether that is a good thing or it just means we're only going to be signing a couple of new players.....

Something tells me the wonderful Liam Trotter will be one of them.

WANDERERS will announce their official retained list on Monday as Dougie Freedman looks to get his summer business started early.

Six players are out of contract at the Reebok but only one – Stuart Holden – has already confirmed he will be returning for pre-season training at the end of June.

Zat Knight, Chris Eagles, Tyrone Mears and Arran Lee-Barrett are expected to be released, while the chances of Andre Moritz being offered a reduced deal to remain at the club have also diminished in the last couple of months. Freedman wanted to get today’s final home game against Birmingham City out of the way before revealing the players he will allow to leave for nothing, although young keeper Jay Lynch has already confimed, via his Twitter account, that he has been released.

“Out of respect I have already told the lads who I am not going to retain,” he told The Bolton News. “But I think the best way is to make that public on Monday.

“Great credit to most of them – they have been incredibly professional with the way they have handled themselves, and some will be involved against Birmingham.

“Clearly one or two haven’t but that’s the way it goes sometimes, it is what you have got to deal with.”

Talks with incoming players are now “75 per cent” complete, according to the Wanderers boss, who has now set in stone his playing budget for next season following discussions with chairman Phil Gartside and owner Eddie Davies.

Freedman has not completely ruled out any further arrivals but hopes he will have completed most of his transfer dealings by the middle of next week.

“I already know who my targets are but, of course, I always leave one or two spaces in case something comes up or jumps out at you,” he said.

“We’ve made noises about those players and obviously until the paperwork is done, it’s never completely done, but I have spoken to representatives and managers about who is being sold and who is being released so we can actually talk to these players.

“Hopefully, by the middle of next week, 100 per cent of the players we’re going for will have been done.

“In the end, I’m hoping when it’s the middle of the summer and crazy transfer time with people asking for crazy money, we’ll already be done.”

Well, I do wonder if we could scupper City's transfer target - Lionel Messi?

Not expecting much, this close of season, if anything I think we will be relying a lot more on our youngsters for the next couple of seasons due to lack of funds and the FFP rules!

If this actually happened I would congratulate Dougie. Get the players in before pre-season and give them time to bed in, rather than signing them in August and saying they are "not match fit" for several weeks.

Unfortunately, I don't believe a word of it.

It's like when you ditch a long-term boyfriend, you still have feelings for them even though you no longer want to be with them.

I've been there.

And I think that most of us, if we were honest, would say the same.

You adored them, you did their bidding, you put up with their shit, you paid 30 quid to watch them ponce about for ninety minutes without really trying and then left disappointed (in the full knowledge that they were getting 20 grand for that shit)........

It's perfectly understandable.

And then you went home, all frustrated and drank red wine in your pyjamas......

Give it a month or so, and we'll all be looking forward to the new season, trying to figure out what DF is going to do with the ragbag of players he's bought or kept. For me, at this time, it doesn't matter who he has, he's still to convince me that he  knows what he's doing tactically. Off for a nice peaceful summer now.

On the one hand it's no bad thing to get the business done early so there's more preparation and team-building time.
On the other hand I think we already know who he's going to get and it's hardly inspiring. I know we all realise that his hands are tied financially but when money's tight surely that's the time to shop around as much as possible?
Still he did say he'd leave the door open in case there's a bargain to be had.
