The first couple of episodes of The Wire were difficult to follow because of the dialogue used and many people gave up after failing to get into it, but it was never impossible to follow. If you don't like it fine, it's just a matter of taste.
If we are naming over-rated series I nominate Breaking Bad.

Also agree about Spader's performances in The Blacklist being outstanding.
have to disagree Breaders regarding The Wire, it was slow to start with but was an amazing programme, each series concentrated on different issues but always around the same central characters. I would say it was my second favourite ever, the first being the finest TV show ever made - The Sopranos.

Most of the programmes being mentioned here are formulaic American rubbish.
Mind you,I'm still watching Dixon of Dock Green & Dr Finlay's casebook(I've got the hots for Janet).
Used to love 'Hill street blues' though.

I didn't find The Wire hard to follow at all. I was hooked from the opening episode. I thought the script was spot on. Downtown Baltimore isn't for the faint hearted.
The Sopranos is quality as well.

There are some very disturbed people on this site......
And I am now including myself in that because just as I was reaching the "business end of the deal", the bastard producer cut away from the lovely Rachel to Deborah Meaden in Dictionary Corner.
I tried closing my eyes but I couldn't do it quickly enough.
Dragon's Den will never be the same again for me now.....

If I recall correctly, that series was made by the same company that produced Thunderbirds and filmed using a process known as "Supermarionation."
The dialogue used to be first class:
JANET: We're having the vicar for tea, Dr. Cameron.
DR CAMERON: Make a change from kippers, Janet.
