Awkward Situations

I was walking my dog along the canal this evening when I came across a couple sat on a bench. I said 'hello' and they did the same and off I trotted.

I only go so far along the canal and then turn around and head home. 20 minutes later I'm walking back past the bench and the couple are still there. Now, in this situation are you supposed to:

1) Say 'hello' again
2) Smile but say nothing
3) Completely ignore them
4) Engage in full conversation with them
5) Kill them

I ended up ignoring them this time, it was very awkward.

What other awkward social situations are there?

Either of (2) & (5) are fine.

Definitely I would do a number 2!!!!!!

Meaning second option is the best.

Either 2) or a slight nod of the head would be fine I think.

Nat, I'm a bit disappointed you didn't refer to engaging in a full conversation with them as 'do a 'stop and chat''.
