They certainly left their mark. At the time I remember that the group that was expected to fill the void after the Cream break up was Taste but Rory had different ideas as aapparently he wasn't too keen on McCracken and Wilson,  and then in 69 the Hammer of the Gods fell and British rock had a new Goliath!

A lot of people at the time saw Cream as mainly a vehicle for the virtuoso talents of Clapton on guitar and Ginger's drumming. Live 20 minute versions of the likes of "Toad" and "Spoonful" bored the living shite out of me. For me Cream were at their brilliant best when doing the songs written by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown(White Room,Politician,Tales of Brave Ulysses,SWLABR,What a Bringdown,Deserted Cities of the Heart, etc.). Jack's solo albums like Songs For A Tailor and Harmony Row,again with lyrics written by Pete Brown, are also excellent.

Cream were the first "supergroup" and they were phenomenal live. I loved the songs and the improvisation but totally agree with you HP about the drum solos that were so popular back then!

Even the reunion concert a few years ago was good, although I didn't manage to get a ticket and have to content myself with the DVDs.

Another Jack Bruce song which I think is his most moving is "We're Going Wrong". Apparently written about the break up of his first marriage it is one of the saddest songs I know.

I'm with you all the way on that HP, however  they laid the foundation for many of the rock bands that followed along, at the time, with Hendrix. They were more influential on my musical tastes and direction than the mopheads!
As an afterthought i'd forgot about As You Said on Wheels which if I remember is a Bruce Brown song?
