Bolton Wanderers’ 2016/17 pre-season campaign kicked off with an entertaining 3-3 draw against Atherton Collieries at Alder House.

In front of the watching Phil Parkinson, a young Wanderers side initially went two goals behind. Mark Ayres converted an early Atherton penalty, before Brad Cooke doubled the lead with a sweet strike from distance.

Bolton responded, as Alex Samizadeh, a lively presence throughout, quickly spun away from a marker in the box before firing a low shot home.

And Wanderers thought they were heading into half time on level terms when Constantin Sandu reacted well to volley home after his initial cross had been scrambled clear.

But right from the kick off the hosts immediately restored their lead, as Jordan Cover escaped behind the Bolton backline before finishing beyond the onrushing goalkeeper. Atherton led 3-2 at the interval.

Both sides rang the chances at half time and throughout the course of the second half.

Atherton twice struck the woodwork, with Bolton stopper Jake Turner alert to tip a low shot onto the base of the post.

Late in the piece Bolton netted their second equaliser of the afternoon, as sub Ronaldo Pearson latched onto a through ball before drilling a low effort beyond the goalkeeper.

What the hell is going on with that picture? Is Samizadeh only 2 foot tall or have we got a giant playing  for us or am I drunken than I thought I was?

Have to say that shirt looks worse in its entirety than the snippets. Samizedah certainly knows where the net is but he's very small (even smaller and more lightweight than Clough) so I'm not sure L1 is a great place for him.
Did anyone go and give details of the trialists.

Probably all three, he is tiny the guy is tall and because you're drunk you haven't realised Samizedah is much further back.

Samizadeh is that small in real life, was at the game and their centre half had a foot and half on him. To be fair he was the outstanding player on the pitch first half, his first touch was to bring down a high through ball and take it wide of the defenders, was unlucky not to get a shot away. He made a real nuisance of himself all day long.

The rest of the side did okay, defensively they struggled against a much larger side although Atherton played some nice football at times. Second half was disjointed due to all the changes.

Most of the side lacked physicality which is probably down to the age, however Ronaldo looked more robust when he came on and took the third well, wasn't a through ball, the Atherton Keeper was caught well off his line by an attempted lob, managed to claw it out and Ronaldo was following in placed it in the corner.

About to kick off against Helsingor...
Positive result today I hope, now that Parky's had a bit of time with the lads.

It saddens me that Madine is part of Parkinson's plans.
