I don't think paying what is effectively the transfer fee for a good player but ending up with a player less is a particularly good idea. If we could sell him or even give him away we'd be a lot better off, but if we're stuck with him we might as well use him if he hits form as he can always be dropped if he struggles like he did last year.
He'll be gone next summer anyway - along with a dozen or so others.

I see Alex Finney played a full game against Helsingor so wondering if Dervite's place is up for grabs or if Parky is just testing him?

Tbf I think he scored a cracker last pre season as well and most of last season he was shit. Just hoping history doesn't repeat. At this point I'm willing to give everyone a clean slate and hope for the best.

What choice do we have but hope for the best?   We have no idea of finances... or who will still be with us... and I totally agree that if he can score a cracker in preseason, we should hope he scores a bundle of them in League One.  Now to buy a backup goaltender!

That's the point I'm making, the circumstances leading into this season are a million miles away from the circumstances leading into last season.
We're still in business, the majority of the debt is clear, we have owners who are looking forward rather than severing ties who despite early scepticism seem to be getting on with things nicely, we are signing players and have a new management team in place who seem to know what they're doing.
The slate should be wiped clean with a caveat that one or 2 may have a bit more to prove.

When/where is the next game?

We did have a game against the "Dog & Partridge over 40's team" but Alf their main striker was called out on a big plumbing job so that game has been called off for now.
