We’ll have to roll up our sleeves at Chesterfield, says Parkinson

Complacency won’t creep into the Wanderers camp this weekend if Phil Parkinson has anything to say about it.

Based purely on league position, tomorrow’s game at Chesterfield appears an away banker but the experienced Whites boss knows better than to count his chickens against a side scrapping for their survival.

Danny Wilson’s men lie second-bottom and have endured a tale of recent boardroom upheaval that will strike chords with many fans at Bolton.

But Parkinson is preaching the professional approach as the club makes its first-ever trip to the Proact Stadium, opened six years ago to replace the Spireites’ old Saltergate Ground.

“Confidence is high,” said Parkinson, who side have won 12 of their last 14 games in all competitions. “I think we have to go there with the same approach we took to Northampton. It seems a long time ago that game but we’d lost something when we went to Peterborough, where we were second best, but went there in our next away game and rolled our sleeves up.

“We competed for every ball, we did the horrible side of the game, we have got to go to Chesterfield and do exactly that.

The league table makes good reading at present for Whites fans, and Parkinson’s side could go top if Scunthorpe fail to beat Millwall.

“All we can do is keep winning, concentrate on ourselves,” he said.
