TRANSFER LINK: Wanderers 'keen on' Huddersfield striker Danny Ward 16278163

Wanderers have been linked with a move to bring Danny Ward back to the UniBol during the January window.

Ward made his senior debut for the Whites back in 2009 and went on to have loan spells at Swindon, Coventry and Huddersfield.

He joined the Terriers on a permanent deal in 2011, making more than 100 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

The 32-year-old also had spells at Rotherham and Cardiff before returning to the John Smith’s Stadium two years ago.

Ward scored 14 goals in the Championship last season as Huddersfield narrowly missed out on promotion, losing out against Nottingham Forest in the play-off final at Wembley.

He has scored three times in 22 appearances this term and is entering the final months of his contract.

Wanderers are interested in re-signing the forward next month, according to a Patreon report by Alan Nixon.

Ian Evatt’s men have struggled in the final third at times this season, finding the net 26 times in 21 league games.

The report claims that the Whites could even offer a small fee to bring Ward back to the club after more than a decade.

Evatt’s current options include Dion Charles - who reached double figures for the season at the weekend - Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Amadou Bakayoko. Dapo Afolayan and Elias Kachunga have also been used in the number nine role.

Huddersfield find themselves at the bottom of the Championship table, having won five of their opening 22 fixtures since the start of the campaign.

Mark Fotheringham’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat against Watford over the weekend after a brace from Joao Pedro.
