TRANSFER LINK: Wanderers 'keen on' Huddersfield striker Danny Ward 16278163

Wanderers have been linked with a move to bring Danny Ward back to the UniBol during the January window.

Ward made his senior debut for the Whites back in 2009 and went on to have loan spells at Swindon, Coventry and Huddersfield.

He joined the Terriers on a permanent deal in 2011, making more than 100 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

The 32-year-old also had spells at Rotherham and Cardiff before returning to the John Smith’s Stadium two years ago.

Ward scored 14 goals in the Championship last season as Huddersfield narrowly missed out on promotion, losing out against Nottingham Forest in the play-off final at Wembley.

He has scored three times in 22 appearances this term and is entering the final months of his contract.

Wanderers are interested in re-signing the forward next month, according to a Patreon report by Alan Nixon.

Ian Evatt’s men have struggled in the final third at times this season, finding the net 26 times in 21 league games.

The report claims that the Whites could even offer a small fee to bring Ward back to the club after more than a decade.

Evatt’s current options include Dion Charles - who reached double figures for the season at the weekend - Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Amadou Bakayoko. Dapo Afolayan and Elias Kachunga have also been used in the number nine role.

Huddersfield find themselves at the bottom of the Championship table, having won five of their opening 22 fixtures since the start of the campaign.

Mark Fotheringham’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat against Watford over the weekend after a brace from Joao Pedro.

Hey, why not replace our low scoring strikers with another low scoring striker.

Perfect.

It's the Bolton way.

I think we’ve got to accept where we are Nat and what we can afford and good strikers cost big money, including on loan, which we don’t have. Ward would I think be a good partner for Dion, he’s big and strong, not without pace and a glorious left foot and one who’s not afraid to shoot from distance. He obviously wouldn’t be my first choice but in our position and with our budget I think he’d be a useful addition and whilst he probably won’t be prolific he should with his experience be able to get 10 to 12 goals a season at our level, maybe more with the chances we’re creating? The question is, who goes out to bring him in, assuming he comes? I suspect it won’t be Kachunga so it has to be either Baka, Bod or maybe both. 🤔

What's the point of signing a striker who isn't going to score a few? We've already got plenty of 'em.

If I was Shazza I'd keep my wallet tightly shut, Evans doesn't exactly have form for picking good strikers.

With his goal to game ratio, he would be as much use as wash N’ gog
