We offered £7 million last January and apparently would go no further.

Wonder if we would have stayed up and have several million more now in the bank now if we had gone that bit further and bought him?

The 20-year-old forward has agreed a five-and-a-half year deal but will be loaned back to Palace until the summer.

United will pay £10m up front, with the fee potentially rising to £15m based on Zaha's appearances and success.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I have my doubts he'd have had much game time had he signed anyway.

Yes because we "could have had him for 2 million" apparently.

Cough complete bollocks cough.

Sounds bollocks but I heard he was rated at £2mill and we wouldn't go over £1.5m at the time. Probably bollocks though.

He could also end up really average though.

Too good for us then.

Why did we bid 7 million if they would accept 2?

Wilfried Zaha: Bolton offer £7m for Crystal Palace winger

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16785501

"I don't think it is to the value that the Crystal Palace chairman wants," Coyle said after the first bid.

"But it is an offer we felt was fair for a very talented young player."

We also bid over 6 million for Rhys Williams the same week.

Makes you wonder where did all this money go, we didn't spend anywhere near 7million in that window.

Makes you wonder - well it does me - that if Coyle seemingly had £13 million available to spend why he only bought a player who he clearly didn't know too much about - he contacted his former manager to find out what he was like (showing that he was not on his wish list at the start of the window - or indeed near the end of the window either!) and did nothing with the rest to strengthen the team in areas were we all knew need strengthening - a replacement for the injured Holden and a defender (or four!) - yes we got Ream but he had millions to buy more spend but didn't.

Doesn't make any sense to me - but then again Coyle always was clueless imo.

Wonder if his phone’s still ringing?

(Edit Leeds beat me to the point!)
