United pay £60 million for Di Maria

Manchester United have agreed a British record transfer fee of £59.7m to sign Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria.

The Argentina international, 26, is in Manchester and will have a medical on Tuesday morning, after which the move - which will take United's summer spending to £132m - will be confirmed.

He could make his debut away to Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

He's obviously a good player but he's not worth a British record transfer fee.

They don't even need a winger, too lightweight and his nickname will be Mr Flop.

They will make in excess of that fee every home game. So It's barely even a risk. Very good player on his day but he's hit and miss for me.

Great player who's only got better the last couple of years, particularly when deployed in a central role for Madrid. They need centre backs and a DM but this is still a good signing, and will offer them some pace which they're lacking at the moment.

They've paid too much. Smacks of desperation.

I think they make about £4m a match, not £60m.

Personally I don't think United should be spending that much on any one player. They're weak in a number of areas, maybe least of all attacking midfield.

United don't have a midfield,full stop. They dispensed with the need for one years ago when Fergie decided "there was no value in the market." They haven't forked out for a quality midfielder since Owen Hargreaves while it's obvious that that has been their major weakness for about 5 years at least. It was Fergie's fault the Glazer's got control of United after the Coolmore crew sold their shares to uncle Malcolm after Fergie pissed them off by taking them to court over ownership of the racehorse Rock of Gibraltar.He's been saying what wonderful owners the Glazer's are ever since to assuage both his own guilt and United's fans anger.
