Is this the lad we attempted to sign last July but he got cold feet and pulled out of the deal?

Think it was January when we tried to sign him, but yes it is the same one.

He was the young lad that thought he'd get homesick, If he signed for us a few months ago. God help him, If he travels with the first team squad to Yeovil. :falltopieces:

Maybe they're seeing how he goes on commuting to Partick which has got to be at least 15 miles away from Hamilton and if he hacks it, put him out on a series of loans to clubs further away until he eventually gets to Bolton?
He'd still have away matches to contend with though.
There is precedence. I had a mate who at the age of 20 came to our house in Bolton and it was the first time in his life he'd ever left Scotland.

Bolton have signed Scottish starlet Gary Fraser on a free transfer from Hamilton Academical, Sky Sports understands.

The highly-rated 19-year-old has agreed a two-year deal at Bolton after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

Bolton have held a long-term interest in Fraser and tried to initially sign him in January.

Former Celtic youth product Fraser was highly-regarded as Hamilton and a number of clubs were thought to be monitoring his progress.

However, Bolton have won the race for his signature and as he viewed as one for the future Dougie Freedman is expected to send him out on loan this season so that he can get regular first-team action under his belt.

Let's hope he really is "one for the future" unlike all Coyle's picks.

However I do have a lot more confidence in Dougie's judgement based on what we have seen so far and what he did at Palace.

If he's any good, it all helps the cause IMO.

he will spend 2 years knocking around the academy, get released and sign for somebody like Elgin City like most of our 'development squad'

Hence the "IF he's any good" bit.
I haven't seen him play so I don't know if he'll make it or not, but seeing as half the development squad has been released I'm guessing he's better than what we had.

So what are you crying about?

I'd rather take a chance on a player like this, than rely on what is reported to be a poor development squad.

We don't lose much money and there's a chance we'll make a tidy profit/get a decent player in future.

Moaning about signing promising young players is thick IMO.

Signing a load of cattle kids just to sell on or release after 2 years is thicker IMO

we need to be signing players who can do a job now...

But their not signed with the idea of selling them, we've got to hope that the management can spot a player. We don't lose much money doing this and the rewards can be great.

And we are signing players who can do a job now, it's not as if we've only signed kids this summer and Dougie's said he wants 3 or 4 more.

There's more to be positive about now than there has for a long time.
