Went and woke Mrs B up because she grew up in LH and she reckons it's probably Brierley House.

Hope that's right because she is now quite angry that I woke her up and I am going to pay for it in the morning.

Looking forward to getting the 'new' Harper Lee novel 'Go Set A Watchman', on Tuesday.
The saintly,upstanding Atticus Finch turns out to be a bigot.
Gonna be a tough read for lovers of 'Mockingbird'.
Incidentally,it's set to be the most pre-ordered title on amazon since the final Harry Potter book.

I wonder if Truman Capote wrote that one too..........

To be honest, I'm probably going to swerve it for the reasons you cite.

For me, there must be a reason why Harper Lee hasn't sanctioned its release before now and (as I'm sure you're already aware) there is some debate about whether or not she's finally lost her marbles and this is just her publishers cashing in.

I know it sounds daft but I don't want to read about AF spouting racist stuff and attending Clan rallies - that's just wrong and I think that's why she's never allowed it to be released in the past. 

It was her first book and TKAM came out of it, as again, I'm sure you already know and I think HL realised very quickly that the two would never sit well together as companion pieces, simply because of the vast differences in AF's character between the two stories.

I think that having originally written the character we (will) see in the "new" story, she changed him for TKAM, hence why the two are so different.

Just my two penn'oth and I'm probably talking bollocks but that's how it looks to me.

Someone said recently that it would have been a kindness to leave it unpublished.
