since the childhood thread has turned into a who used to drink where (we must me all alcoholics) i thought we should have a thread for pubs we used to drink in that are no longer open. Mine are

Halliwell Lodge  - Mornington Road, literally 2 minutes from my house

Sally up Steps and the Kings Arms on Chorley Old Road, part of our trek starting at the Vic and down to the pub on the top of St Georges Road (The Crofters?)

Robin Hood on Halliwell road -  now Tyson Furys gym!

Three Pigeons on Blackburn Road

Crown and Cushion - otherwise know as crown and flick knife to me and my mates

Churchills  on Manchester road -rough as a bears arse but a good laugh in there

Superb web site on Bolton Lost pubs - link below.

It doesn't seem to have been updated in the last few months which is a shame but 'click' on the map to the left of the page and you will be amazed how many pubs in Bolton have been lost - I've certainly supped in many that are no longer there.

There used to be two Pubs, one on either end of this row, back in the 60's.

Waterloo Tavern on Folds Road and lower down the Dog and Snipe.

There were also the nearby Robin Hood on Slater Street, one in the middle of Waterloo Street - the Peel I think and the Waterloo Hotel at the far end of Waterloo Street to Waterloo Tavern.

The only one I went it was the Waterloo Hotel but funnily enough it was the loss of all these pubs over a few year period that I hadn't been in that got me thinking about trying to visit other pubs before they too were closed down.

For a number of years I used to meet my father on a Sunday evening and set off somewhere by bus usually and go for a stroll around parts of the town and nearby areas, visiting all the pubs we reasonably could - usually just having a half in each, until it got time to get the last bus back to Moor Lane.

Happy Days.

I used to go in The Feathers in Breightmet, had some brilliant nights in there around the Millennium.

Also the Red Bridge and the Top Bull if we were feeling up market.

You mention the Gardeners. I remember the O'connors when I was a lad , there dad was the landlord.
Bonfire nights were always a treat as they brought a bucket of freshly pumped ale to the fire in Holly Grove on the donkey field, just at the back of Ivy Road. Graham and Gary were the two lads if I remember correctly?
Happy days.

Yes I remember it - or at least the one that used to be on Bolton Street.

Only supped in it the once or twice - a pub on a terraced street, surrounded by several other terraced streets.

Not really a pub you would find if you wasn't a local as it was tucked a bit out of the way from the closest main streets.

Did you used to live in that area?

I used to live off Ivy Road bewtween 1948 and 1967 and went to Church Road school before going to Bolton County Grammar in Great Moor street.

When did you live there?

I used to live off Ivy Road and walked past the donkey field hundreds of times to catch a bus on Chorley Old road.
