As fifteen year olds we mostly avoided Bolton pubs, to avoid running into our dads. We'd walk into Farnworth, move into Little Hulton, then on up to Walkden.
It was only when we became legal drinkers that we felt safe.
Not sure how we got away with underage drinking, because at 15 I looked about 10. No one seemed to give a toss. Pint of Guinness 15p!

We always went to Olivers in town, it was downstairs on Deansgate. It used to be the Lower Nags Head before that i think?

The Crown and Flick knife (Cushion) was also a well known spot for underage drinkers in the late 80's.

Probably had a drink in all of them although I can't be certain after all these years since.

1 - Old Original British Queen - definitely - there was even a pub across the road called the British Queen, also, how odd was that?

2 - Man and Scythe - we've all been in that one!

3 - Grapes at Westhoughton - if this was in the town centre, which I think it is - then defiantly.

4 - Jolly Carter, Little Lever - I've been in most if not all in Little Lever but I can't remember this one specifically.

5 - No Name - yes - I always my dad pointing out the church near to it and saying - 'a church without a steeple and a steeple without a church' - wonder how many people understand what I'm talking about!

6 - Wellington Hotel - yes - I used to go to school with a lad who lived there!

7 - Sally up steps - Yip.

8 - Doffcocker - they once held a chess competition there - I won it!

9 - Victoria Hotel - I'm stuck a bit with this one?  It's not Fanny's but I feel I should know it?  Just can't place it?

10 - Church Inn, Farnworth - possibly not?

So easily 7 out of 10 for me, maybe more!

Number 8 looks like it's in town, is it the Swan on the corner of Churchgate?

I think that may be part of the Hope and Anchor in the picture across the road from it.

sorry meant 9  Very Happy

Been in the Doffy and the Hope and Anchor many times over the years. When i do go back to Bolton we usually go to the Finishers nearby as my mate lives round the corner.

Used to drink on Chorley Old Road so always started at my the local the Vic then onto to Sallys, The Kings Arms and the Crofters on St Georges Road.
