Mine was normally 524 to either Bolton or Bury and when I left school it was 32p to go as far as I wanted. By the time I stopped using the bus it was about £2.10 to go less than 3 miles...
What was your bus?

From the old Trinity st. terminus it would have been the 45 or 46 and I think there was a 47?
From Moor Lane it would have the number 6,7 or 10 also a couple of Ribb!e buses went our way but I think they were a bit dearer so hardly ever caught them.

The 225 & 215 were both run by Ribble and the 530 and 533 were originally SELNEC (remember them, think it stood for South East Lancashire, North East Cheshire)

When I lived in Farnworth, from school I got the 5 into town, and the 4 up to Doe Hey. When we moved to Heaton, would attempt to get the renumbered 505 home, but the Headmistress had a habit of stopping the bus, and ordering all her girls off as they should walk.

I just knew that your knowledge of bus timetables would come in handy someday!

I used to get the 523 but think it got replaced by the 471, or I could get the 537,536,562,94 or 561.

Talking of buses- Rotala, the company that owns Preston Bus and South Lancs Travel (now called Diamond Buses North West) and just bought Wigan Coachways.
It seems to be expanding in this area and hopefully create much needed competition against Worst Bus
