Only one League One goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than Wanderers’ James Trafford since the start of the campaign.
The England Under-21 international has continued to impress since returning to the Whites on loan from Manchester City, building on his performances during the second half of last season.
Trafford made a couple of important saves during the goalless draw against Cambridge at the weekend, including a brilliant stop to deny Harvey Knibbs in the second half.
It was his eighth league clean sheet of the campaign – a total only Sheffield Wednesday’s David Stockdale (nine) can better at this stage.
Barnsley’s Brad Collins has also kept eight clean sheets this term, while Ipswich’s Christian Walton and Plymouth’s Michael Cooper are close behind on seven.
Meanwhile, Lincoln’s Carl Rushworth, Derby’s Joe Wildsmith, Cheltenham’s Luke Southwood and Exeter’s Jamal Blackman are all on six clean sheets.
Trafford also ranks highly for prevented goals - Wanderers would be 4.58 goals worse off without him, according to the data experts.
Moreover, the youngster has had a big impact as a ‘sweeper’, leaving his line more times than any other shot stopper in the division (43).
Ian Evatt’s men have the joint-best defensive record in the division this season along with Barnsley, having conceded 14 goals in 17 matches.
Trafford is 13th in the division for the number of saves he has had to make, which further highlights the protection the Bolton backline have offered him in recent months.
The Whites will be aiming to build on their solid defensive numbers ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Highbury Stadium to take on North West neighbours Fleetwood Town (KO 3pm).
