Ian Evatt issues injury update ahead of Peterborough trip 16441990

Wanderers wing-back Randell Williams is back in contention ahead of Saturday’s trip to Peterborough.

Williams was absent from the squad against Cheltenham after picking up a hamstring strain but has now returned to training.

The 26-year-old has made five appearances since joining the Whites from Hull City during the January transfer window.

His return comes at a welcome time, with Conor Bradley ruled out of the next couple of matches through suspension, having picked up his 10th booking of the season.

Williams has been used on the left of defence so far for Wanderers but is also capable of playing on the opposite flank.

Elias Kachunga is also suspended but will be back available for Tuesday night’s clash with MK Dons at the UniBol.

Meanwhile, George Thomason is set to return to training next week following a spell on the sidelines.

Thomason had become an important member of Ian Evatt’s first-team squad but suffered a knee injury during the 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers in December.

The midfielder has recovered ahead of schedule after a specialist decided the injury did not require an operation.

Southampton loanee Dan Nlundulu is not yet ready to return to action, while MJ Williams remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Jack Iredale and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson are long-term absentees with knee and ankle problems respectively.

Wanderers have benefitted from a full week on the training pitch, and Evatt is pleased with the work they have been able to do with their January additions.

The manager said: “Obviously, these free weeks are good for us to enable us to get some detailed work into some of the new recruits and to really teach them to more in-depth basis about the way we play, what we do and what is required in and out of possession.

“This week has given us that opportunity and we have grabbed it with both hands.”

He added: “I think they have all taken to it very well. They are all intelligent footballers, they are all able to do what is required and it is now just about nailing down those finder details.

“But I have seen some really good signs this week and hopefully we can take that into the coming matches.”
