Benik Afobe: The future of English football?

Benik Afobe has been called up to the latest England U21 squad.

He has not shown anything so far during his loan here to suggest he is the next Theo Walcott, yet he always seems to get on the pitch ahead of Sordell, Eaves & C Davies. He didn't exactly impress at Huddersfield in League One either.

Yet, he plays for us, he plays for England and he plays for Britain.

Am I missing something here? Is our Benik actually the future of English football?

I'm beginning to wonder if managers actually watch players anymore.

As with Davies and Ngog, Afobe can't be getting in ahead of Sordell on quality.

He's been a disappointment for the best part, but there have been glimpses of potential. If he was a product of our own youth setup, I'd want him to start more often for belief that he'd grow over the next few years into a decent player for a club of our stature. I doubt he'll make it at Arsenal.

Benik Afobe included in England U21 squad - Marvin Sordell left out!

When Sordell has been given a chance to play he has looked better than Afobe. So why drop Sordell and replace him with Afobe in the England U21 squad? What evidence is this based on?

I don't care about Afobe and will be delighted when Sordell is given a run in the first team and shows exactly why I think he is the better player.

When he starts, Marvin Sordell is our best striker as far as I'm concerned. 4 goals in 3 starts against PL opposition says it all. Would Afobe or N'Gog have got that? Nope.

For me the reason Afobe will be picked over Marvin is due to him being an Arsenal youngster, if he wasn't still contracted to arsenal then he wouldn't get near the under 21 set up IMO.

All I had to do was make a thread about him to get him to go!

If I remember correctly alot of our fans were banging on about him after his little hat-trick in one of our pre season friendlies.

At that point he looked like he had potential - however, this wasn't to be the case...

So...... it turns out he hasn't done so badly after all.

That's because the numpty didn't play Sordell and Afobe as his two strikers in his 4-4-2. He had to play SKD as one of the front two. Sordell and Afobe were the one front combination that OC never tried!

Laughable. He was shit for us and not good enough to warrant a place in the first team. End of

to be honest he didn't look great when he came to us, we all got excited when he scored a hat trick in pre-season but it never happened for him at Bolton. Fair play to the lad he's done well since and looks a decent player now
