I know Rusholme like the back of my hand (and Burnage Norpig!) and it's changed constantly from when there was just Butt's and 2 other "indians" in the 60s (most are Pakistani or Bangladeshi TBH) Good places come and go so it's just a matter of timing to find a good one.

 
I know what you mean Lusty, we used to go regularly to Rusholme being so near but haven't been for a few years. The one i would trust most is probably the Sangam right at the top of Rusholme and maybe Al-Bilal.
I've lived in Burnage for the last 7 years so i'm still getting used to it, you probably know it better than me!

Presumably you're nearer West Point than Parr's Wood?

I used to have a house about half a mile away -  just the other side of the Kingsway pub on the left in West Point where the triangle of park meets Slade Lane on the corner - but that was 15 years ago! Nice houses I thought, built by Lord Egerton apparently  - my mate still lives in Park Avenue.

The smaller Sanam that RT mentioned is probably the only one I would recommend as well. When you park at the back behind the restaurants, it's plain to see what a disgusting filthy state most of these places are in. If there's no bag of cat's heads stacked up with the rest of the garbage, it probably means they've used the heads in the curry as well.

One of the nicer curries I've had is from the place on Tong Moor Rd - Spice Island? 
It was a selection of veggie curries shared with my bro and rellies but beautifully cooked and flavoured. Would recommend it to anyone.

My two favourite curry restaurants are Akbars on Liverpool Road in Manchester and the Nawab in Levenshulme. Avoid Shimla Pinks in Manchester near the courts, way overpriced and the food aint that good. If you have to eat in Rusholme then I would recommend the Sanam, failng that, try the Royal.

Do you mean the takeaway Spice Island?

We have ordered from here for the last 10 years and I would highly recommend.

I usually have a lamb rogan josh and you can identify what is in it unlike some restaurants I have been to where they look like they have used uncle bens crap sauce mixes (Lagan at Ladybridge likes to use these!).

You can't beat their garlic naan breads either or their onion bahjis!

It is a shame that they don't actually have a restaurant as we would go on a regular basis.

They have actually won awards for their curries in the past.

 RT my mate at work lives in the flats above Akbars and is plagued by mice! The Nawab is not that far from me but haven't been yet but will give it a go.

The Nawab is a former cinema and seems very popular with the Asian community. Most of the dishes are mainly buffet service but there is somrething for everybody. I went with a Pakistani work colleague on his  recommendation and I wasn't disappointed.

 stay away from Akbars! my mate has caught about 20-30 mice over the last few months.

Will do! It's always been packed whenever I have eaten in there but it's a few years since I last ate there.

The problem with curry is that you can disguise any meat or anything else in it.

Make your own.

Probably. It's the one just across and down from the Conny club where Tony Knowles used to be based. But I thought it was a proper Indian (Hindu) and therefore vegetarian so I might be confused. Whatever- it was 'kin tasty.
