Cost-cutting continues at Wanderers with Liam Feeney potentially next out of the door at the Macron Stadium.

Preston North End are favourites to land the winger, who has been virtually ever-present for the Whites this season, although Charlton Athletic have also expressed an interest.

Feeney is out of contract in the summer, is not one of the squad’s bigger earners and would command only a small fee up front – but such is the drive to curb the wage bill from outgoing owner Eddie Davies, Neil Lennon may have to stand by and watch the 29-year-old move on to a Championship rival.

Signed by Dougie Freedman from Millwall on a free transfer in July 2014, Feeney has enjoyed a mixed relationship with the Wanderers fans.

He has led the club’s scoring charts for most of the season, scoring four goals, and missed just one game.

“He does have his critics but I’m not one of them because he gives me everything every week,” said Lennon after Feeney had played a starring role in Saturday’s 3-1 win against MK Dons.

“He keeps going. His fitness levels are unbelievable and the chasing back he did at times was fantastic, as were some of the crosses he put into the box.

“He will contribute with a goal here and there as well, so in a really tough season he can be pleased with his overall contribution.

“He is an important part of my team.”

Lennon is having to sit by and hope his squad is not dismantled by the end of the month, with transfer policy now effectively taken out of his hands.

Terry Robinson was brought in by owner Eddie Davies last month to oversee any deals in the window but thus far the Whites have lost just one senior player, Medo Kamara, who had his contract terminated.

Ipswich Town have revived their interest in captain Darren Pratley and a clutch of other players have been linked with moves elsewhere.

Lennon hopes to come to an agreement with Shola Ameobi about remaining until the end of the season but holds out little hope of adding any other names to his squad.

“I’ve been given no indication I can sign players, and besides we’re still in embargo,” he said.

“Shola is a possible one. I’ll speak to the powers that be because his contract is out now but we’ve tried that with a couple of players and been rebuffed.

“It would be nice just to freshen things up a little bit, definitely.”

i would be sorry to see him go, he's no world beater and he is frustrating at times but he gives it everything. I would rather see some of the higher earners leave before him but we aren't in a position to be picky are we?

I like him. I think he's better than some people think and losing him would be bad when we're stuck with the likes of Spearing who's as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

What does Iles mean when he says "cost-cutting continues?"

Am I wrong in thinking that despite the shower of doom and gloom Iles has been pissing down on us for the last two months, nobody has actually left the club?

As far as I can tell, Trotter has come back from loan and Wilko has gone out on loan. I'd have thought that on balance, costs have risen.

Maybe he's referring to the selling of other more saleable assets?

Like the car park.

We are in the position where Feeny is our best attacking player. If he goes we are finished for this season IMO. Who else is going to provide an outlet and a run at the defense. Albeit the end product leaves a lot to be desired but it's better than nowt.
