Yes it is- it's what most accountants suggest to their smaller clients who trade from their domestic addresses. Accountants can charge a fee for it. From a tax perspective it's actually better to have your home address as the registered office as you can charge a proportion of your domestic expenses against profits.
but then you have to have change of use planning permission to run a business and pay extra insurance and pay capital gains tax when you come to sell up on the bit you used for business purposes as its not then your primary residence....it gets this complex for individuals and small businesses, heaven only knows what the different ta vehicles are used between all the holding companies, Isle of man, bermuda etc etc

My Ltd company was registered at my accountant's address for years, Sluff.

It means nowt.

What I was trying to say was that if some small accountancy place in Essex is their 'local' accountant, then then the person behind the company has a fair chance of being local to there too?

Seemed a reasonable assumption I thought.

But since then I've remembered that Holdsworth recently managed clubs in Essex and there is a good chance that that is where the link probably stems from.

So yes you are right - it isn't really interesting news that I found at all!

Very Happy

It still remains your primary residence and any capital gain is apportioned on the basis of the number of rooms less kitchens and toilets. It would be very rare to pay any CGT. I've traded from home for decades as a limited company- from the spare bedroom. No change of use, no insurance complications either. Simply apportioned bills. It's actually not as complicated as it sounds

At the moment, the Marie Celeste springs to mind, with no crew in sight.

This is Accountant speak and quite right too Smile
I believe certain types of distinct offices within the same grounds e.g. converted farm outbuildings would be more likely to require change of use if converting from agricultural to commercial use, but a home office converted from residential use e.g. an existing garage wouldn't attract attention.
