You guys need to research about ip addresses and what they do or don't do

You can ban an account by both user name and / or ip address.

However it is very easy to register on Nuts and use an ip blocker if they want too.

Therefore it is very hard to keep people off the site if they have a mind to keep coming back to it.

The only advantage we have is that it literally only takes one key stroke to ban someone but it takes them three or four minutes or more to reregister as they have to use a different email address each time to verify their 'unique' account.

If more than one device is assigned the same IP address there will be an IP conflict warning.
What I'm asking is how Nuts admin ban people. Do they do it at an IP address (device) level so that the computer won't receive data (and hence all accounts accessed from that machine will not work) or do they make a specific account inactive at a software level? I use network software which manages this stuff at account level.

I was asking as Johnny said his IP address was banned (although it wasn't clear if he meant on her or on BA) That seems mad to me as accounts can be accessed from any device ergo different IP addresses can't they? Or am I mistaken?

Answer please mods?

If it is a persistent abuser then we will ban them by ip address also.

Johnny is not banned from here but has been banned by BA.

Tbh I have no idea how we ban people technically on here. The site we hire has a ban button that we simply press - that is all I know about it but as I've explained it is not too difficult for people to beat it if they have a mind to.

Cheers guys. From what you're saying it sounds like individual accounts are made inactive at database level. Blocking IP addresses is a bit of a nuclear option but the accounts could still be accessed from other devices, so not infallible.

I guess the only way to find out if a user has multiple accounts is to check IP addresses but that assumes they use the same device for all accounts so it's not infallible either.

So it would appear that we're just going to have to rely on everybody acting like a grown-up then.

Well, you never know.......stranger things have happened.

my ip got banned on ba because i kept coming back and fighting my corner. Got around that today to messagw someone by switching to porn mode and using mobile data rather than wifi.
