FIFA, wrong or right?

So FIFA have told both Scotland and England cannot wear poppies on their shirts on remembrance days game, it's said to be a political statement by wearing poppies, I say it's a symbol of remembrance and nothing more, so in my eyes FIFA should just fuck off and keep their noses out, what say you?

I agree- they should keep their corrupt noses out of a domestic event. I'd say to both sides-wear the poppies and tell FIFA to sod off.

It's a FIFA World Cup Qualifier, so like it or not, their rules apply.

And if having the poppy on the shirts breaches their rules, we should abide by their decision.

Who do we think we are?

Are we so special that we deserve special dispensation just because we're British?

And anyway, why didn't the English and Scottish FA's just agree to do what happened last time this cropped up and wear (FIFA sanctioned) poppy armbands instead?

It's the oldest international football game in the world- it was there decades before the corrupt FIFA organisation was ever heard of. Tell them to stick their petty rules up their corrupt arse. Wear the poppy and dare them to do something about it. They're a set of arsewipes

But it's their competition so if we want to take part, we've got an obligation to play by their rules.

If you were having a barbecue at your house and you sent invites out with "All Welcome But No Man Utd Shirts Allowed!" in big letters on them and a couple of blokes (who you didn't really like anyway because they were friends with some journos who kept trying to dig up shit on you and make you look bad in the press and possibly get you locked up) turned up wearing them, would you let them in and feed them sausages and burgers?

Or would you tell them to fuck off and go and hold their own barbecue?

That can't be true.

China don't invent things, they only copy things.

wrong, wear the poppy and tell them to get a grip, they have compromised in the past so it is clearly a cop out on FiFA's part to avoid upsetting those who may want to support displaying symbols which FIFA would not want to be associated with.

I think the argument should be taken to FIFA that their premise of the poppy being a political symbol is wrong. It has never been a political statement, even in the broadest sense. It is a mark of respect for the fallen, of, now, all conflicts in which our forces died, and the poppy symbol is taken from the abundance of them, seen growing in the killing fields of France.

Unfortunately the red poppy has been politicised in the same way the white one has, although I completely support wearing one and would prefer if both sides did, FIFA's stance on any political display is relevant here.

What is all the fuss about? Does it really matter? Putting the poppy on shirts just looks like a gimmick to me not a genuine attempt to respect the memory of those who died for their country.

It all seems to be part of the current desire to show we "care" by ostentatious displays of bogus emotion. Remember when Princess Di died? It's got a lot worse since then. Also why do people in the public eye feel the need to wear a poppy from late October onwards? Probably because they are scared of the abuse that they will receive if they don't.
