The government has awarded a £70 billion contract for ‘Everything net zero’ to a company with only two employees in Cornwall.

This is not right. A not-for-profit group of local councils in the East of England has selected a company registered in Cornwall (which said it had an average of two employees in 2019) to run tender competitions for contracts for the public sector bodies like schools and hospitals to achieve their net zero goals. The maximum amount that can be procured through it is £70 billion, but the company has not been given this amount of money from the government.

A post on Facebook claims that the government “has awarded a £70 BILLION contract for ‘Everything net Zero’” to a company with only two employees.

The Facebook post is a screenshot of a since-deleted tweet.

But the claim that a Cornwall-registered company, Place Group Limited, has been awarded a £70 billion contract by the government, is not correct.

As pointed out by Matt Honeycombe-Foster, Politico’s UK policy editor, on Twitter, the reality is “quite boring (but much less viral)”.

So the government has absolutely NOT awarded a 70BN contract to a random Cornish company to oversee the entire net zero transition. Here's the quite boring (but much less viral) thing that's actually happened:

Place Group won a contract to run tender competitions on behalf of public-sector bodies which are procuring services to help reach their net zero goals. Place Group says it will “invite leading sustainability organisations to tender for contracts, undertaking cost benchmarking to ensure the public sector gets best value for money”.

Or as Mr Honeycombe-Foster explained: “essentially, the supplier chosen [by E2BN] becomes a middleman, matching up companies who can work on green projects with local councils, schools and hospitals”.

Or in simple language the company has been simply employed to tender out specialised work.

The company is a specialist in the field with 18 years service.

I don't know what the company tendered to do this work but it will most likely be in the tens of thousands of pounds rather than the 70 billions that Maugham/GLP 'scaremongered' with.

Note Politico’s UK policy editor Tweeted this rebuttal on the 2nd August at 12:57 pm, within hours of Maugham's first tweet - yet he/GLP continued to grift for money days later from the brainless morons who believe everything they are fed by them by tweeting out this story AND linked to their crowd funding page.

It never cease to amaze me at how many people believe totally and unquestionably what they read on the internet!  

My post above on how Maugham/GLP echo's this also in that they spin a story to gullible/stupid people who want to believe what they read from them is true without out any proof other than what they've just read - and immediately thereafter put their hands in their pockets to contribute money to them - is just absolutely incredible to me.  It is akin to them getting an email saying they've won the Nigerian lottery and please send by return your bank details - and they do!!!

No, the truth is simply that "whichever way you look at it" what you posted was a DELIBERATELY EDITED part-sentence from the BBC articles quote - which changed completely the context of those words from what the person who had originally said them.

I usually refrain from interaction with fake accounts but every now and again feel it is necessary to call out the trolling from them.

I'm sure others have long ago made up their minds about who is nasty or stupid but this 'nasty and stupid' person (if that is how you wish to see me), invariably is correct and truthful in what I say and that's because I check out the facts rather than look for 'things' to deliberately manipulate and mislead just to further their own political agenda, like you have done here.
